The Scientist to Entrepreneur Program in Armenia

Granatus Ventures, in affiliation with CIVITTA and supported by PMI Science, is pleased to announce the launch of the inaugural "Scientist to Entrepreneur" Program in Armenia and its first bootcamp session.

Catalyzing Science Commercialization in Armenia


Are you a researcher, a scientist or a science-driven aspiring entrepreneur with intellectual property that has the potential to transform industries? Are you eager to take your research project to the next level and explore its commercialization potential? If so, we invite you to participate in the "Scientist to Entrepreneur Program" in Armenia! The program will comprise a series of instructor-led bootcamps, starting with an introductory “Discovery Bootcamp” and progressing to the more advanced upcoming “Impact Bootcamp”.

Our Instructors:

Professor Charles L. Cooney - The Robert T Haslam 1911 Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Emeritus in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Founding Faculty Director, Emeritus of the Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation at MIT. He serves as a board member and consultant to a number of biotech and pharmaceutical companies. He chaired the FDA Advisory Committee for Pharmaceutical Science from 2004 to  2006. Prof Cooney’s research and teaching interests span a range of topics in biochemical engineering and pharmaceutical manufacturing. He has published over 250 research papers, over 25 patents and co-authored or edited 5 books, including “Adaptive Innovation: An Entrepreneur's Guide To Technology Innovation”. As founding faculty director of the Deshpande Center, he is interested in the process of stimulating technological innovation and translating innovation into new company creation.

Dr. Howard Califano - Howard leads the overall operations of the SMART Innovation Centre (Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology Innovation Center). He brings experience from academic, industry and financial sectors focused on developing businesses around emerging technology. He has founded, held executive management positions, acted as Member of the Board of Directors and CEO of multiple companies in the US and Asia. Howard was the CEO of Johns Hopkins Singapore and The Johns Hopkins NUH International Medical Centre. At Johns Hopkins Singapore, he managed a team of 80 researchers, physicians, administrators and staff, to establish a Center of Excellence in research, education and patient care. From 1995 to 1999 Howard was Assistant Dean of The Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine, where he was responsible for its business development activities, including the Office of Technology Licensing which is tasked to commercialize all medical discoveries originating at Hopkins.

Successful DeepTech company founders from around the world will join as guest speakers to illuminate the introduced concepts and share further insights through their practical experiences. 

Our bootcamp is designed to catalyze DeepTech commercialization by providing you with foundational knowledge, skills, and resources needed to turn your research into a successful business venture.

Here's what you can look forward to: 

Introduction to basic concepts of Adaptive Innovation to academic researchers in an abbreviated bootcamp format by the authors Charles Cooney (MIT) and Howard Califano (SMART Singapore) themselves. 

Expert Insights: Learn from industry leaders, successful entrepreneurs, and academics who have successfully navigated the path from research to entrepreneurship.

Interactive Workshops: Gain hands-on experience through workshops focused on business development, intellectual property, funding strategies, and more.

Pitch Competition: Showcase your project in our pitch competition, gain exposure to potential investors and progress to the more advanced “Impact Bootcamp”.
